What’s Happening On The Sonny Side – CYC 07

CYC 07 was tremendous! It is hard to imagine the impact of one weekend being so great in your life, but CYC 07 was just that. What made it so such an impact? FIRST, There was a group of us (Eastwood youth) that were first timers. I don’t mean first time to go to CYC but first time to go to anything like CYC. New kids on the block so to speak. Young people that come from homes that something like “a 4,700 plus” attendance at a youth event would be unheard of. These young people shared with others as God was praised and worshiped. The beauty of these young people being able to attend CYC is that you provided for them to be there to experience this wonder of worship. SECOND, Those teaching and leading us in praise was right on target. The lessons were powerful, understandable, believable and most of all, were Biblical. The songs were uplifting. Jon and Phil did a good job of mixing the songs. At CYC we have a huge number of adults. The song selection was a good mix of (what we call) old and new songs. They were all praise and worship songs. Third, the sound and lighting was just right. This is an important aspect of any program like CYC.If there was a disappointment it was that it did not snow. We went there with predictions that, “it is going to snow.” it snowed all around the Gatlinburg area, but not in Gatlinburg. Honestly, it was good for travel and attendance. Safety must be first priority in making a trip such as this. This year there were congregations from Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. This was exciting. They said they were coming back. The responses were, as each year, encouraging, very encouraging. I don’t have the numbers before me but there was a tremendously good number of young Christians that came forward to give themselves, again, to the Lord. They came to renew their commitments to the Lord. There was 4 that came forward to requet putting the Lord on in baptism. During the Saturday night devo’s I know that there were several more immersions into Christ. The Hatton Church of Christ had 5 baptisms; Salem Church of Christ had 7 baptisms. I heard of 1 more and do know that The Beltline Church of Christ, in Decatur, Al. used the baptistery at the Pigeon Forge Smokey Mountain Church of Christ. As always God gets the glory and praise. We must thank Him for allowing us to worship and to serve Him.

Once again, CYC was a great success. It is great to hear of the number of responses during CYC. The effort put forth by all those who worked to make CYC a success clearly demonstrates a bountiful harvest. Thank God for all those who diligently work throughout the year to bring about this successful, growing effort.
