What’s Happening On THe Sonny Side

4 AM, Can’t sleep! This happens to often. Could it be that this is what happens as you get older? I turned 55 this past month (April 21). Never really thought much about getting old(er). Some say age is just in your mind. Hey, I know that’s not (exactly) right. It is in your bones and muscles too.

For many people 55 is not old at all. To some it is ancient. To me it is where I am. There are benefits though. We don’t have to pay for our checks anymore and some places coffee is cheaper. I guess I’ll have to write more checks and start drinking coffee.

My grandkids think it’s funny that I am 55. I do too, except when I can’t sleep. I am a lot closer to retiring; if I ever get to retire. At 55 I am a lot closer to meeting my maker. Hey, that sounds more like a benefit than a curse. I wonder how Methuselah felt at 55? He lived to be 969 years old. I guess he thought 55 is just a drop in the bucket. Adam, the first man, lived 930 years. Wow, those guys were old! Who wants to live that long? Honestly, that would be a curse.

It really doesn’t matter how long you live, but it does matter how you live. Live for Jesus and live for the Father. That is what matters. Solomon said it best, “Fear God and keep His commandments for this is man’s all (Ecclesiastes 12:13).” At the beginning of that passage, Solomon said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the matter.”

In the New Testament the apostle Paul said it like this, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Live until you die, but make sure that your living is in Jesus.

Well, my eyes are still wide open. I think I’ll go down to the 24/7 convenient store and by a cup of coffee with my free checks :-)

Hey man, I turn 43 in a few months and so manythings are already changing. Bones ache, eye’s won’t work. I can’t imagine the old old age of 55.:)

I seems like yesterday I was in Bible class with you at Eastwood. God has truly been good to us, but no matter what He brings us, the real matter is what you said, It’s how we live that counts.

We learned this week at Pepperdine Lectures that whether He gives or takes away, BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD!!

I pray His blessings on you, even into your aged years. Lord willing, I’m right behind you.

I’m a year behind you and experiencing much of the same. I told our youth minister yesterday I should weigh less just from walking to and from the house trying to remember why I went over there in the first place!

Heard a preacher at Pepperdine Lectures say when he was in his 20′s he could play basketball all night, and hit the next day running. In his 30′s he could play basketball all night and feel a little sore the next day. In his 40′s he would wake up and feel sore and hadn’t done anything the night before. And now, in his 50′s he doesn’t wake up in the mornings because he never fell asleep the night before!

I’m a friend of Keith Davis and am completing 30 years of preaching. Resigning soon after 13 years with a wonderful church family in Long Beach, CA to go to work with my son in a family business. I had Charles Beavers for biology in 10th grade at Mars Hill!

I’m 7 years behind you and couldn’t sleep last night. In this particular department I do not want to be ahead of my time but I might not have a choice.

I’m a friend of Keith’s from Central Florida. God bless.

Wow, Sonny! You are old! Not me, though! Remember, you were my YOUTH minister. Life does have a way of going by quickly, but when we look at where we are headed, that doesn’t seem so bad, does it? I am at least a decade behind you, but already I experience those sleepless nights and my thoughts occasionally wander to the idea of retirement, but that still seems centuries away. I still don’t get any price reductions and definitely don’t receive anything for free except the daily blessings of the Lord and a peace that is beyond any understanding. May the Lord bless and keep you and Jackie as you strive to serve Him.
