Vacation Bible School Begins Sunday

Make plans to join us for Vacation Bible School, which begins this Sunday.

Sunday at 4:30 we will eat Supper (hot dogs) together.
5:15 Singing with the children.
5:30 Class and crafts. Adults will also have class at this time.
7:00 Singing with the children.
7:15 Dismiss.
Monday – Wednesday at 5:30 we will eat supper.
6:15 Singing with the children.
6:30 Class and crafts. Adults will also have class at this time.
8:00 Singing with the children.
8:15 Dismiss.

Jeremy Brown will teach 7th – 12th grades. Sunday, Andrew McGee will teach
the adult class. Monday and Tuesday, Kenny Barfield will teach the adults.
Wednesday, Sonny Owens will teach the adults.

Hope you will work hard to make sure that you and your family and many
guests will be at VBS!

Youth Work During VBS

Our junior high and senior high will have a treat during VBS. Jeremy Brown, from the Gulf Shores Church of Christ, will be teaching their class.

Jeremy is going to bring a group of teens from Gulf Shores to work, either in the tornado relief, or in the East Florence area, as well as be in class each night of VBS. I want to encourage our parents to get our youth group to be active in this work also.

He may be bringing as many as 15 teens with him, so that means we will need to house and feed them while they are here. This will be new to some of you, but it will also be a joy to you. If you have never kept someone in your home, then you are missing a blessing.

I have asked you several times to pray about different things. Would you pray about helping house and feed this group from Gulf Shores? You may think, “We have been asked to do an awful lot lately.” Yes, you have and it will help you to grow spiritually.

The apostle Peter concludes his second letter with these words, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18

This just might be a GREAT summer of growth!

Second Annual Gospel Singing Success

Eastwood hosted its Second Annual Gospel Singing this past Friday evening, March 18, 2011. We were blessed with the attendance of 160 singers, who were led by 35 song directors. Sincere appreciation is expressed to all who attended and who directed our wonderful singing. Visitors honored us from many Shoals area congregations, as well as from congregations throughout the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. We sang from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and it seemed like these two hours flashed by in a hurry! Our singing was a resounding success as a result of the wonderful attendance and participation.

As usual, our ladies and gentlemen outdid themselves with the wonderful food that allowed us further fellowship following our gospel singing. Food? You know it, and plenty of variety, quality, and quantity.

We would like to cordially invite you to visit Eastwood at every opportunity that you have. We want all to feel welcome as we worship God together.

Basic Rudiments of Singing Class

Beginning on Sunday, February 6, 2011, Eastwood will begin a 4:00 PM singing class in the auditorium. We will plan to sing until about 4:45 PM, giving us time to visit with our ‘family’ prior to worship on Sunday evenings. We pray that all of our congregation will find this to be a helpful and encouraging part of our time together. All are invited to this class.

During this time together, we want to incorporate ‘basic rudiments’ of music to add to our ability to sing ‘parts,’ to improve our singing together. This will include, but not be limited to, learning ‘shape notes,’ learning to find the ‘key’ of songs, learning what ‘time signatures’ mean, etc.

By our learning and growing together, Lord willing, we will be able to form a group for singing at funerals and other opportunities. Our singings at local area nursing homes are certainly wonderful opportunities to supplement this training time together. Once again, I encourage every member to make it a priority to join with brothers and sisters to encourage these older folks, as well as to improve our singing.

If you have questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to bring them to me and we’ll certainly try to find answers.

Gospel Singing on December 17, 2010

On Friday, December 17, 2010, we will host what we hope to be an annual Gospel Singing event. Song selections will come from the “Church Gospel Songs & Hymns” book. Refreshments will be served following the singing.

Does God Exist?: A Debate on the Most Important Question of All Time

On Tuesday evening at 7pm Eastwood’s Youth Minister, Colton B. Scott, will participate in a debate titled: “Does God Exist?: A Debate on the Most Important Question of All Time”. The debate will take place on the campus of the University of North Alabama in the Guillott University Center. Please, come out and support our as he debates the existence of our heavenly Father. September Community Meal

Last Monday, September 22, 2008, we held another community meal at the Eastwood Church of Christ. It was good food, good fun, and great fellowship.

The main dish was soup beans and cornbread. We had several different types of beans and cornbread, and they were all very good.

We had a great turn out too. Altogether we had about 80 people, including memebers, guests, and visitors.

There isn’t another community meal planned yet, but keep checking the Calendar of Events for updates.

Thanks for all those who attened and a very special thanks to all those who prepared food and helped clean up.
